Operational notifications · Slack · connected laboratory records
Send FlaskTrack laboratory events to Slack without moving the system of record
Use an incoming webhook to bring operational notifications into the channel where your team coordinates work.
The message is an alert; the authoritative workflow, batch, sample, approval, or other laboratory record remains in FlaskTrack with its full context and history.
What you need
A Slack workspace
Permission to create or install a Slack app in the destination workspace.
A destination channel
Choose a dedicated channel for laboratory, operational, or quality
alerts.
Organization administration access
A FlaskTrack administrator must save, test, enable, or remove the
provider.
Slack setup instructions
- 1. Create or open a Slack app. Choose a name and associate it with the workspace that should receive FlaskTrack alerts.
- 2. Enable incoming webhooks. Open the app's Incoming Webhooks settings and activate incoming webhook support.
- 3. Add a webhook to the workspace. Select Add New Webhook to Workspace, choose the destination channel, and authorize access. For a private channel, the authorizing user must already belong to it.
- 4. Copy the generated webhook URL. Slack generates a channel-specific URL beginning
with
https://hooks.slack.com/services/. Treat it as a secret. - 5. Open FlaskTrack notification providers. Go to your organization settings and open Notification Providers.
- 6. Add the Slack provider. Select Slack and paste the complete incoming webhook URL. Default channel is optional and may be used as an administrative reference.
- 7. Save and test the connection. Save the provider, select Send test, and confirm the message appears in the expected channel.
- 8. Enable operational delivery. Keep the provider enabled after testing. Disable or delete it when the destination should no longer receive alerts.
Security and operating guidance
Protect the webhook URL
Do not place it in public repositories, screenshots, tickets, or shared
documents.
Rotate exposed credentials
Revoke or replace the Slack webhook and update FlaskTrack if the URL is
disclosed.
Keep source records in FlaskTrack
Use Slack notifications to direct attention to the controlled source
record.
Retest after changes
Send another test after changing channels, permissions, app access, or the
webhook
URL.
Troubleshooting Slack delivery
- Confirm the complete webhook URL was copied without spaces or truncation.
- Confirm the Slack app and incoming webhook remain installed and authorized.
- Confirm the destination channel still exists and the app retains access.
- Confirm the FlaskTrack provider is enabled.
- Use Send test after each configuration change.
- Replace the webhook if Slack revoked it after public exposure.
